LAGNE is dedicated to the practices, images and theories of lament. Far from being a mere expression of
weakness or passivity, lament permeates rituals, narratives, artistic practices and contemporary
technologies, taking the form, in turn, of protest, healing, resistance, irony or assertion.
The
fifth issue of TBD Ultramagazine explores lament as a cultural form, a political gesture and an aesthetic
device. Through essays, images and interdisciplinary reflections, the issue explores the complexity of
lament as a practice capable of redefining the relationships between subjectivity and collectivity,
vulnerability and power, voice and listening.

The document is intended to formally evoke the appearance of the French ‘Cahiers de doléances’: a
bureaucratic archive in which complaints are collected as if they were pre-filled forms. The text unfolds
along the rectangular navigation grid, labelled 1 to 11, which lists the articles that make up the
magazine.
