The following is the thesis work I was lucky enough to do together with the bollate prison in Milan. More specifically, the project took place together with the editorial staff of “carteBollate,” a magazine of the prison of the same name edited by lifer inmates.

The result was a thesis on all the prison magazines born over the years in Italy, with a complete cataloging of each of them, and an analysis of the phenomenon to date. I'm sending it to you because I think it's an example of how truly today print and periodical publishing can still socially connect and dialogue. A case of magazines needing help, often for free, but for a cause that is certainly worthwhile.

This thesis explores the role of editorial design as a tool for social change, focusing on independent publishing and communication design. Editorial design, understood as a creative practice, has the potential to promote societal change, but how can a project be
socially useful? Starting from these questions, the thesis focuses on a very specific context: incarceration in Italy.
